Brevard County Health Planning Partnership

The inaugural Brevard County MAPP meeting was held on February 2, 2005. Karen van Caulil, Executive Director of the Health Council of East Central Florida, welcomed the County representatives and explained the MAPP process to them.

A Community Report Card was presented and discussed. This report was prepared by Health Council staff based on nationally recognized risk factors and outcome indicators, representing a combination of personal behaviors, community environment and health care system policies and practices. The Report Card also compares Brevard County indicators to the State and the Nation. An additional comparison was done that compares Brevard County indicators to those of two peer counties.

The 2004 Community Health Assessment for Brevard County was presented and discussed at length. This survey of health behaviors was sponsored by the Winter Park Health Foundation and the Community Health Improvement Council, with assistance from the Health Council of East Central Florida. Brevard County joined the study this year, based on funding from the Brevard community.

The group discussed recruiting more community representatives and then meeting again for the Community Health Status Assessment, the Forces of Change Assessment and the Local Health Public System Assessment.

The Local Public Health System assessment will being on April 18, 2005. The group is meeting at 1:00-3:00 pm at the Brevard County Health Department in Room 205. The address is: 2575 N, courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL.

The Brevard County Health Report Card has been commpleted. This looks at overall healt as the result of a combination of behaviors, the community environment, and health care system policies and practices. The criteria have been identified and tracked for every state and rankings determined according to a proprietary calcuation.
